These fine brass aglets are ideal for helping to thread the points of medieval clothing (both civil and military) through the eyelets of other items of clothing and armour to secure them to each other. This "pointing" was a common way of attaching items of costume and armour to each other in the late medieval period, particularly the 15th century.
Our aglets are made from brass and are about 35 mm long with a 2mm opening to inset the point into (usually a thin piece of round section leather or cord. The point was then secured to the aiglet by gently crushing the opening of the aiglet against the end of the cord with a small pair of pliers or sewing the cord to the aiget for a more secure fit.
