(The photo is of my personal tankard that I brought in 2014. In late 2020 it started leaking at the base. I used it as my guinea pig to learn to reseal our horns and tankards. I am very happy that my tankark is working again!)
Over time the internal seal (varnish) of your horn or tankard may degrade and cause leakage. Especially around the base of tankards and tumblers, We can revarnish your horn or tankard so it is as good as new.
We use a special, food grade varnish that is based on a recipe from the 16th century that has continued to be used to the current time to seal the interiors of wooden and horn bowls and drinking vessels. You can easily buy a food grade varnish yourself but it could be cheaper simply to send your drinking vessel back to us to do this for you.
The product we use has a spicy smell but this does not affect the taste of any beverage and vanishes after a few uses.
I've repaired one of my own tankards with this varnish as well as revarnish several of my horns (althuogh the horns didn't need it) to test this product on my own items first. I am happy with the results so I am now offering to do this for our customers.
The procedure is for you to send the horn back to us at your cost. Our price covers the varishing and cost of sending your item back to you via tracked postage anywhere in New Zealand.
