Product Details

This Viking themed horn has a stylised Midgard Serpant brass finial and an etched brass rim at the mouth with a highly detailed Midguard Serpant (Jörmungandr) surrounding a Viking Compass ("Vegviser") carved design. A vegvísir (Icelandic for sign post or wayfinder) is an Icelandic magical symbol intended to help the bearer find their way through rough weather. The symbol is attested in the Huld Manuscript, collected in Iceland by Geir Vigfusson in 1880 (but consisting of material of earlier origin).

This is a very complicated design and to bring out the detail, I have carefully washed and then wiped the excess clean with a red water based paint. I have put the photos of my horn on this page to show the detail. They do not come with this paint infil. We can do this as an optional extra if you wish in a colour of your choice.

The Horn is about 30 cm long and has a capacity of about 250 -350 milliltres.

Each horn comes with a hand forged iron stand to allow it to be stood upright on a bench, table or on the ground.

The horns have been boiled and cleaned thoroughly, waterproofed and then polished. so you can drink out of them straight away although we recommend a quick rinse with warm water before you use them for the first time. Also cleaning your drinking horn with some form of natural oil occassionally will increase its life, Being a natural product the shape and colour will vary from item to item.

Prices include GST and tracked postage within New Zealand..
