Product Details

Suitable for most forms of medieval reneactment combat.

This is the iconic medieval helmet of the European early medieval period.

For centuries this helmet has been the most popular helmet in most parts of Europe because of its versatility and good balance between protection and mobility. It is most famously depicted on the Bayeux tapestry representing the invasion of Saxon England by the Norman knights and footmen of William the Conqueror. During this battle (also illustrated on the Bayeux tapestry) reveals how William the Conqueror had to lift his nasal helmet to show his troops that he was still alive after the rumour of his death had spread in his army.

This is one of our most popular helmets. It is made from either 1.6mm (16 guage) or 2.0 mm (14 guage) mild steel with reinforcing strips arond the brim and across the crown of the helmet. It is lined with a comfortable and secure leather liner. A circumference of approximately 68 cm makes it fit almost all head sizes. And a sturdy chin strap closed with a lovely buckle will help keep your helmet secure.

A padded arming cap should be worn with this helmet and for additional protection around the base of the neck and shoulders a maille coif can be worn over the arming cap.
