Product Details

This is an authentic reproduction of the helmets worn by the warriors of Ancient Greece. These classical helmets were designed to be close-fitting, shaped to the skull with only small openings left for the eyes, nostrils and mouth. This design allows for maximum protection, visibility and air flow.

The Corinthian style of helmet first appeared around 860 BC in bronze. Iron versions appeared later. It was the favourite helmet of most Greek Hoplites heavily armoured spearmen during the Archaic and early Classical period, and even the famous Athenian leader, Pericles, was portrayed wearing it. Later on, it gave way to lighter forms of helmets that impeded less the hoplite’s vision and hearing but kept being used in a slightly modified fashion by the Italians as the “Italo-Corinthian” helmet up to the rise of the Roman Empire.

It is a very light and comfortable helmet to wear and for its time was as advanced as similar helmets from later medieval times. This is one reason why it persisted almost unchanged for almost 1000 years!

Our Lord of Battles Corinthian helmet is a copy of one of the later styles and is made from 1.6mm mild steel and comes Battle Ready with a simple leather suspension liner. It can be used in most styles of re-enactment combat except for the most heavy forms of head blow combat.

You could also look to getting it plated in copper for a bronze look.
