Product Details
From about the end of the 14th century armouring skills had developed to the point where the entire body could almost be covered entirely by metal plate armour which made most items of maille armour obsolete. The exception being the areas around the waist and hips, arm pits and around the base of the neck as it was impossible to cover these areas with metal plate unless you wanted to severelycompromise mobility.
Specialist items of maille were developed to protect these areas and these were used in conjunction with most forms of plate armour throughout the 15th century and beyond.
One of these was the maille collar. It was a small strip of maille sewn onto a thick leather collar that was buckled closed behind the neck. It served to protect the neck without compromising the mobility of the neck and head.
Our Lord of Battles maille standard is made from 9mm/18 g flat iron links in the alternating solid/wedge riveted manner. The mail is sewn onto a thick 4mm leather collar which is secured by two pairs of straps and period buckles.
It is completely authentic and comes ready to use without any further work.
Available in blackened or natutral oiled finish.
