Step into the refined world of Renaissance dueling with this expertly crafted Spanish Cup Hilt Rapier, inspired by the iconic swords of 16th-17th century Europe. This elegant cup hilt sword has both historical authenticity and performance. It includes a leather scabbard for storage and travel.
The Spanish Cup Hilt Rapier evolved during the late Renaissance as fencing became more sophisticated and focused on thrusting rather than cutting. Originating in Spain, this design quickly spread across Europe, becoming a preferred weapon among nobles and duelists.
The defining feature, the cup hilt, was formed for superior hand protection compared to earlier swept hilts. It shields the hand from incoming strikes with fluid wrist movement. The twisted guard elements further enhance defense by helping deflect or trap an opponent’s blade. This combination of protection and agility made the spanish sword a dominant dueling weapon of its time.
The blade is forged from EN95 high carbon steel, which provides:
A simple leather scabbard is provided to protect the blade when it is not in use.
The sword is 1.09 metres long and has a balance point approximately 6 cm from the cup hilt. This provides precise point control and better maneuverability.
The tip is pointed so we highly recommend purchasing a rubber safety tip if you plan to fence with it. We provide this as an optionl extra in this listing.
The cup hilt is designed to protect the hand during combat or practice and the wooden handle is shaped for a comfortable hold and improved grip stability
