Product Details

The arming doublet was used to secure items of plate armour to the body. It represents the end-point of the evolution of padded armour. Tailoring techniques had evolved to the point where the garment was close fitting but at the same time provided maximum mobility and comfort.

The cords are called 'arming points' to secure items of maille and plate armour to the doublet. This method ensures that all the items of harness act as one with the body to provide ease of movment.

Our Lord of Battles 15th century arming doublet is made in the same manner as our other items of padded armour with 3 layers of wool sandwiched between an inner and outer later of cotton. The arming points are cord with brass 'aiglets' to make threading the cords easier.

You can complete the arming doublet with the addition of maille voiders and a maille skirt.

When I first saw this doublet I was amazed at the quality. It is as good as similar products that cost twice as much from the USA. I have worn it in Western Martial Arts training and can vouch for the ease of mobility. This would be an excellent garment to use as a standalone garment for studying any 15th century Master such as Talhoffer or as a foundation garment for a full 15th century harness for either foot combat or jousting.

Available in off-white, black and Red in sizes M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL.
