Gambesons are padded under tunics. They have been used since antiquity and had a number of important functions including acting as a cushion to absorb the forces of a blow and to support the weight of overlying metal armour.

This style of gambeson was common in the mid to late 15th century.

The 15th century period - in particular the "Wars of the Roses" is a very popular period for UK re-enactors and in recent years has become more popular un New Zealand. We have selected this classic mid to late 15th century style gambeson from the Lord of Battles range to use as either a standalone armour for this period or as a foundation to build a more complete suit of armour on by adding 'arming points' to attach items of mail and plate armour to..

Like all of our other gambesons it is a 'medium weight' gambeson with 3 layers of padding sandwiched between an inner and outer later of cotton.

It is secured by 4 leather thongs.

It is available in plain off-white or black.
