Product Details

This buckler is based on the illsutrations in Talhoffer's 15th century "Fight Book".

It is octagonal, has a centre grip, is 42cm long and 32 cm wide. (17" by 11"). It has a sturdy handle and an outwards facing curved top and bottomĀ that can be used trapping an opponent's sword. It is made from 1.6mm steel and weighs 1.03 kg..

The term buckler derives its name from the French word "bouclier", meaning "shield". It was used from the 12th century all the way to the 18th century. Its small size allowed it to be both maneuverable and mobile. It often accompanied a swordsman as an aid in defense, and was designed to be light and maneuverable, allowing a warrior to retain a good portion of their mobility and agility, even when deflecting blows with a shield.

Available in either blackend or natural/polished finishes.
