Product Details

One size only

From about the 12th century the maille coif became a separate garment from the earlier integrated hauberk/coif used by the Anglo Saxons, Normans and other late dark ages/early medieval European warriors.

It could be worn as single standalone item of maille worn over a gambeson or padded arming cap/hood or as part of a more complete maille outfit. Many warriors could not afford to buy much mail but those who did obtained a maille coif as their first choice of maille protection as the head and neck were always the prime target in combat.

Our Lord of Battles maille coif comes ready to use without any further work. However, to avoid the iron links from chaffing your skin we recommend that you wear it in association with a padded arming cap or a padded hood (see our padded armour section for details on these products).

The coifs are available in 4 types

  • Natural Finish with Wedge Rivets
  • Natural Finish with Round Rivets
  • Blackened Finish with Wedge Rivets
  • Blackend Finish with Round Rivets

All are made in the alternating solid link / rivetted link method which saves on cost but is very strong. Depending on what we have in stock, it may not be your first choice.

Price includes GST and tracked shipping within New Zealand.
