Product Details

While maille armour provided great protection against cutting or slashing type weapons, it provided very little protection from impact weapons such as clubs and maces which could leave the maille intact but crush the tissue or break the bones underneath.

From about the midde of the 13th century we start to see the development of the first pieces of medieval plate armour which were steel items to cover the knees and elbows which were very vulnerable to impact because they could not be covered with thick padding without compromsing their movement.

Our hand forged steel polyns for the knees are hand forged in 1.6mm steel and lined with canvas on the inside and some this leather straps and buckle to allow them to be secured over maille chausses or padded cuisses.

Price includes GST and tracked postage within New Zealand.
