Product Details

From the late 14th century armour smithing had delevoped to the point where large items of plate armour could be forged from a single piece of steel. This late 14th century one-piece one piece breastplate is one of the earliest examples of this and replaced the "Churburg Style" breastplate around this time.

The Italians were among the pioneers of armour smithing and Italian armour was in popular demand so was exported throughout Europe.

The breastplate also has a 'stop rib' - a v-shaped strip of raised steel on the chest to deflect blows away from the neck and face.

It is secured across the back by leather straps with period buckles. It is made from 1.6mm steel.

I was pleasantly surprised when this example arrived.  The breastplate is very well crafted from one peice of steel so the classic globose shape is hand crafted without any welds or seams.

It can be worn over a gambeson or over a maille hauberk or haubergeon. It is suitable for most forms of re-enactment combat including jousting but is very light and would also make a great LARP accessory or theatre costume.

Price includes GST and tracked postage within New Zealand.
