These are our best sellers in our guantlet range.

"I took some pretty heavy blows from a couple guys with Dane axes, had I not been wearing these I am fairly certain I would have more than a few broken bones in my hand."

In medieval combat the hands were always vulnerable and period fighting manuscripts show specific techniques for targeting the hands.

In the 14th century when plate armour making skills started to get more refined, we see the first use of plate gauntlets and one of the earliest was the classic hourglass gauntlet that first appeared in the middle of the century but its use persisted well into the 15th century.

Our Lord of Battles hourglass gauntlets are made from 1.6mm steel and is suitable for jousting and foot combat. It can be made in lighter steel for less strenuous use. In 2015 I brought the first pair of these gauntlets that we received and I have been using them weekly in HEMA training ever since with very little maintenance required.

Some of our customers have brought these gauntlets and made them even better by replacing the leather glove that comes with them with a thinner glove of a size that fits the individual buyer better along with decorative copper or brass studs or trim. The last photo shows such a modification by a customer.
