Product Details

These are a full cuff version of our best selling 14th Century Hourglass Gauntlets. They are based on a surviving pair of Italian guantlets from 1370 - 1400 AD on display in Florence (Italy). They would have been used from the second half of the 14th Century well into the first quarter of the 15th Century.

They come with a full cuff that also covers the inside of the wrist unlike our other 14th Century Hourglass Gauntlets which leave is area open for more wrist supinatation (plam inwards). Because of the full cuff, the inside of the wrist has slightly more prootection at the cost of slightly less inwards movement.

Among all our gauntlets, they offer a wide range of movement and maximum mobility for your wrist, thanks to their wide cuffs typical of that period. Handmade from 16 gauge (1.6mm) mild steel, these types of gauntlerts are among our best selling items of armour due to their sturdyness over time. They come attached with suede leather gloves and their  total length is approx. 27 cms (from the tip of the middle finger to the lowermost point of the gauntlet).

"I took some pretty heavy blows from a couple guys with Dane axes, had I not been wearing these I am fairly certain I would have more than a few broken bones in my hand."

We have been using the several different versons of the Lord of Battles hourglass gauntlets for the last 10 years and found them to be suitable for jousting and most forms of foot combat. Over time the finger plates may come loose and rivets may need to be replaced but we sell rivets to make sure that these will last you a life time with a little care and maintenance.
