Product Details

From about the mid 14th Century we start to see the wider use of metal plates to protect the torso and limbs as armourers developed their skills to include the use of multiple sections of plates riveted together to allow protection over a wider area while still allowing good mobility.

Our Lord of Battles late 15th century Cuisses, Winged Poleyns and Demi-Greaves are suitable for any knight's harness from the mid/late 15th century through to the late 15th century. The cuisse covers the upper leg and consists of two hinged plates with a leather tab at the top edge to secure arming points to. The poleyn for the knee has been expanded with a wing to deflect blows alway from the sides of the knee. The poleyn articulates with a lower demigreave and an upper cuisse between two smaller plates to provide greater freedom of movement. The top of the cuisse is rolled to provide greater comfort and has leather tabs to attach the entire assemby to an arming vest or arming doublet. Each piece has been fluted in the style of the original which was intended both for decoration and additional protection. The fluting provides extra strength to the metal as well as helping to deflect blows away from the wearer.

The leather straps on the cuisse and demigreaves are fully adjustable.

The leg harness is a generic one size fits all and will fit most people from about 170 cm to 185 cm tall but can be adjusted to fit most people. Internal padding like sheep skin can be glued to the inside to pad out the harness for people with skinny legs!

Because the leather ties that secure the cuisse to the arming clothes can be adjusted, our cuisses fit most medium and tall people. Construction from mild steel allow some widening or compressing of the component plates to allow some adjustment for a comfortable for people with skinnier or fatter leg than average.
