A pair of red, vegetable tanned leather garters (small belts) with brass fittings used in the middle ages to secure leggings and leg armour (e.g. maille chausses) to the leg.
These were typically secured around each leg just below the knee to help secure leggings (hose) and armour (e,g, maille chausses.
As clothing became better fitting, they eventually became fashionable dress accessories in later periods of history.
Our garters are 75 cm long so can fit most legs and can also be trimmed for a more tailored fit.
You can also add some of our brass belt decorations to make them look really fancy.
