The hands are prone to injury in any style of weapons combat so having some form of hand protection is very important.
These padded mittens provide a basic level of protction for the hands for a minimal cost.
You can add to their protective capability by covering them with DIY maille using our loose rings and riveting tool.
They are suitable for LARP, Western Martial Arts training, Theatrical Combat amd and some forms of Metal Weapons combat (where blows are carefully controlled).
From a historical perspective, these mittens were very common in the 'Dark Ages' and early medieval periods where they were the main form of hand protection for many warriors.
If you are portraying an early medieval knight then they are an an ideal complement to our 11th - 13th century gambeson which had such mittens sewn onto the ends of the sleeves. The maille hauberk of the time also had maille 'pockets' extending from the sleeves to also cover the mittens.
