These hand forged bodkin arrowhead have been one of the contributors to the great English victory of the longbow on three legendary battlefields of Crécy (1346), Poitiers (1356), and Agincourt (1415). Being extremely affordable and easy to forge, these were more versatile and frequently used on the battlefield than many of their other counterparts!
Designed to punch through all forms of fabric armour and the gaps between the links in mail, these arrows helped make these forms of armour obsolete and lead to the rapid development of plate armour which was generally impervious to these types of arrowheads except at very close range.
