Product Description

"Jack in Chains" armor, also known as "jack chains," first appeared in the late 14th century but were more common in the 15th century.

They were used by infantry soldiers and archers who wore padded jackets ("jacks") and who needed additional protection for their arms, particularly the shoulders and elbows, which these chains provided. They were a creative and low cost solution that consisted of solid shoulder and elbow pieces, joined y smaller fragments of metal plates along the forearm and bicep.

Our classic set of Jack in Chains are hand-forged from 18 gauge steel (1.4 mm) and are perfect for light protection for the arms without compromising mobility. Their unique design and pattern make them ideal for a light infantry 15th Century harness.

Historically the plates were made from thin plates of metal as they needed to be cheap and affordable. Ours use 18 gauge steel unstead of our usual 16 gauge steel to reflect the historical examples. They are lightweight and sturdy, offering a good balance between mobility and protection.

The two shells fit the shoulder and elbow perfectly for a more comfortable experience when worn. To attach them to your arms, we provide a pair of leather cords.
