Product Details

Cuirassiers were cavalry equipped with a cuirass, sword, and pistols. Cuirassiers first appeared in mid-to-late 16th century Europe as a result of armoured cavalry, such as men-at-arms and demi-lancers discarding their lances and adopting pistols as their primary weapon and a plate cuirass as their primary defence.

Our cuirassier guantlets are the epitome of the gauntlet design and represent the last stage of their evolution. Their elegant look and mobility make them one of our most popular pieces of armour. They are a copy of the original 16th-17th century cuirassier’s gauntlets which were known for providing maximum hand and wrist freedom of movement in combat.

Handmade from 16-gauge (1,6mm) mild steel plates that are carefully riveted together to offer proper articulation and minimize movement restriction. Each finger is made of several tiny finger lames, riveted to a high-quality leather strip. It comes in one size that fits most.

Note: This product is carefully coated with a layer of oil when packaged that acts as a temporary (protective) layer against corrosion (rust), which can easily be wiped off using any oil remover or even a dry cloth.

Price includes tracked shipping within New Zealand.
