Product Details

Winged spearheads, also known as lugged spears, appeared in Europe during the Early Middle Ages, particularly from the 8th to 11th centuries. They were common in various regions, including France, Germany, and Italy, with archaeological finds extending as far north as Norway and east to Poland. These spearheads were often depicted in miniatures produced within the Carolingian Empire.

The wings prevented the spearhead from being driven too far into the opponent so the spear could be withdrawn completey. However they were set far enough back from the tip of the spear to still allow fatal bolows to be delivered. They also allowed some limited parrying ability.

For hunting it also prevented game from being able to push through the length of the spear.

Our House of Warfare Winged Spear is handforged from tough EN45 Carbon Steel and is semi blunt. It can be blunted further for reenactment combat or sharpened for hunting.
