Product Details
Our hand forged, tempered high carbon steel bearded axe head is a replica of a common type of axe head used throughout the British Isles and Europe from the 6th to 9th centuries but their use persisted into the 11th century. It weighs just under 400 grams and is 14cm long with a cutting surface of 12 cm.
This style of axe was very versitile. It could be used as both a practical tool and as a weapon. It was therefore one of the most common accessories used by men and women at the time. Because of its shape it is seen as a transitional form between a standard axe head and the more specialised axe heads developed for war such as the Dane Axe.
The cutting edge can be sharpened for craft and woodwork around a campsite. Otherwsie it can be used some forms of re-enactment combat.
You will need to mount the axe head on a wooden shaft and ensure that it is securely fitted.
