Product Details
This heavy duty Celtic Iron Age Spearhead is hand-forged from steel and is 42.5 cm long with a socket opening of approximately 28 mm.
The point may have to be rounded off a bit depending on what battle re-enactment rules you are using.
Many weapons of the Iron Age borrowed some of their design form from the earlier bronze weapons which iron weapons co-existed with for some time before making bronze obsolete.
The large and prominent central ridge was a necessary feature for a bronze weapon to stiffen it as much as possible to prevent the softer metal from bending. However, with this iron spear head this was not necessary so instead it may have retained the central ridge to further stiffen it to increase its penetrative power.
The socket opening is approximately 1 1/8 (28 mm)
